Sugar Plum Fairy

Celestial belly ballet

This is a light-hearted dance with a Christmas flavour. The choreography is characterised by lightness: snowflake hands and shimmies, the smallest, most precise and silent of Egyptian Walks, rising and falling travelling camels, the sharpest tacs and light, high-speed stepping figures-of-eight, ending with hand-flicks.

The music is the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from Tchaikovsky's well-known ballet, The Nutcracker. This movement is characterised by the use of the celeste, which Tchaikovsky discovered in Paris.

Costuming is frothy... wings, wands, and tiaras.
